At our first concert for 2026, "Romance and Fate", Sunshine Coast cellist Julia Janiszewski will be our soloist for Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo theme for cello and orchestra.
Julia is an immensely talented freelance cellist who has been a member of SCSO since 2008. She studied at the Canberra school of music, Sydney Conservatorium, and Queensland Conservatorium. Julia won many prizes for her playing including the Margeret Smiles Most Outstanding Instrumentalist prize, the Christina D'Hage String Scholarship, and the Griffith University Postgraduate Award.
Julia's career has seen her perform nationally and internationally with a wide variety of ensembles such as the Australian Youth Orchestra, Childers Street Quartet, the Sydney-based Mariner Trio, and the Brisbane-based Taimana Ensemble. In 2018 she won the position of inaugural Kingsland Resident Artist with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra. Julia has also performed with many with folk, jazz and contemporary groups around Australia.
"The Rococo is one of the most challenging works in the cellist's repertoire, combining an a veritable smorgasboard of techniques with the lyricism Tchaikovsky is known for. I love working with players who choose to be a part of the orchestra because of their commitment to the Sunshine Coast community. Every member of the SCSO is volunteering their artistry, passion, and engagement with dedication and respect for one another. It will be an enormous thrill to perform this work with an orchestra I know and love. ”
Don't miss this special performance, conducted by Daniel Kossov. The Events Centre Caloundra, 2pm March 29th.
