Franziska Frank – Soloist in A Christmas Celebration

Updated: Nov 12, 2023

Franziska Frank has always loved the cello. While growing up in Germany, at the age of six she refused to go to recorder lessons after being transfixed hearing a cello group play at her local market. Her parents recognised her passion and arranged cello lessons immediately.

Franziska went on to study cello at The University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart, and later trained at the University of Education Ludwigsberg. She now performs as a freelance cellist on the Sunshine Coast and is a specialist instrumental music teacher at Matthew Flinders, Siena, Pacific Lutheran and Stella Maris Colleges, as well as teaching cello privately.

Since 2017 Franziska has led the SCSO cello section, and is now also the SCSO Repertoire Co-ordinator, managing the team that selects the pieces that the orchestra plays.

In our final concert for 2023, A Christmas Celebration, Franziska will play Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Cellos in G minor, RV 531 with fellow SCSO cellist Julia Janiszewski. This concerto holds a special significance for Franziska: she chose it for her final university concert performance before emigrating from Germany to Australia in 2017.
