Clifford Bradley has been a member of our orchestra since 2019 and we've been very fortunate to have a composer of his calibre work so closely with us over the years. A music graduate of the University of Queensland in classical guitar and composition, Cliff went on to study composition with Nigel Westlake at the Australian School of Film and Television.
He has contributed orchestrations and arrangements to major blockbusters like Baz Luhrmann's Elvis and the fantasy film Brahmastra, as well as screen composition work for the Australian film The Edge.
Cliff Bradley's first symphony "Images of the Sunshine Coast" will be premiered by SCSO at our Symphonic Horizons concert on September 13th at the Events Centre Caloundra. This symphony was commissioned by SCSO with additional funding provided by the Sunshine Coast Council Grants Program.
Movt I - The glasshouse mountains and hinterland
Morning birdcalls, and the awakening rainforest around Mary Caincross Park.
Movt II - The River
The journey of the Maroochy River from the mountains to the sea. An evocation of the Maroochy river's history in transporting mail and timber in the early days of settlement on the Sunshine Coast.
Movt III - The Ocean
The mercurial moods of the ocean and an evocation of the storms that impacted the SS Dicky (1893) and Cherry Venture (1973)
Finale IV - Sunshine Coast Sunset
A return to the opening birdcall as dusk falls, and development of the Glass house Giants theme, referencing legends told by the indigenous people of the region for millennia.
Don't miss this very special premiere!
