Composer Adele Mitchell from Brisbane has a keen interest in cinematic composition. Aged 17 at the time of writing, Adele has been composing for a variety of ensembles since the age of 12 and has won several high profile composition competitions. Adele has published works for orchestra, wind band, and brass band which have been recorded and performed around Australia, the United States, and through Europe. Adele is pursuing a career as a composer and intends to study composition at university in either Australia or the United States commencing 2025.
Also a euphonium player, Adele has won state solo championships in Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland, and placed 2nd at the Australian National Championships. They are a member of the Queensland State Youth Brass Band, QYO Wind Ensemble, SHEP Wind Ensemble, as well as brass and wind ensembles at Brisbane State High School.
In their upcoming concert, A Night at The Proms on 8 Sept 2024, the Sunshine Coast Symphony Orchestra will perform the world premiere of Adele’s Uncharted Horizons. The work was written by Adele at age 16, while in Year 11 at school. Immersing the listener in a cinematic journey through majestic landscapes, the piece takes a musical expedition into unexplored territories, evoking a sense of awe and wonder as it paints vivid sonic portraits of vast landscapes and epic adventures. The work was a finalist in the 2023 ASME Young Composer Competition.
